Bob Duff: Could Larkin be a Red Wing quicker than people think? Detroit quietly issued 2014 first round pick Dylan Larkin No. 28 on Thursday and aren't ready to say he won't play for the Wings next season.

I don't think there's a spot for him yet. Let him keep developing and getting first line minutes in the AHL. He will get a few call-ups because of injuries, and that will be the best way to gauge where he's at.

After watching him play a lot at Michigan this past year, I really think the kid is going to be a star. I just don't think it's the year to move him up full time yet.

Be a Penguin next season?

Detroit got lucky that he played behind Eichel on the USNTDP team because it allowed him to drop in the 2014 draft. There's no doubt in my mind that he's going to be a complete stud. I see him starting with GR and being a Wing full-time by February.

Pitt been trying to trade Sutter ever since they got him
Throw in an old aging player and contract doesn't make the deal better.
But I guess you were joking....right?

The only thing that would make Holland move a player like Larkin would be if he gets a young D in return. However, they'd probably move Mantha over Larkin.

I justt don't see how... Pav, Z, Tatar, Gus, Rich, Abby, helm, Shea....are all top 9 but I guess there's one more spot if he can beat out Jurco, pulkinen but then who plays 4th... Miller and glen are likely locks which would leave jurco( wasted on that line) pulkinen (same) ferarro (who I think it should be) and Andy

Hencethe need to move some roster players upfront and on D. Especially with mantha, athanasiou, bertuzzi waiting there isn't room for all of them.

There's almost no chance he's on the opening roster barring a crazy amount of injuries during camp/preseason.

Wings are deep at forward and the top 12 is pretty tough to crack.

This exact conversation happened last year with Mantha. If Larkin is the best player on the Griffins then he'll likely get called up at some point

I would think he could crack the top 12 but he'd only play if he can crack the top 9. Which would put a guy like Jurco or Pulkinen on the 4th line or healthy scratch. Since larkin can go between the ahl and NHL and Jurco/pulkinen can not. I don't see him making it barring trades. Although I don't deny he could be good enough to play the third line wing

I think you're going to see Pulks/Jurco or somebody of that nature packaged with a defenseman to get a top 4 dman. When this happens it would open up some space for Larkin in the top 9.

Honestly, I'd be willing to part with two forwards and a defenseman (Ericsson/Kindl preferably) to get a TRUE top 4 defenseman.

Andy isn't going anywhere. He'll be the 13th forward this year.

That leaves Jurco and Pulks as trade bait on the forward front. Defensively there are several options but I can't honestly think of one that would bring any true value in a trade. Maybe I'm just jaded but I can't see Ericsson, Quincey, Smith or Kindl getting too much interest in the trade market.

Defensively there's a massive log jam and 2 guys need to be shipped out. Holland said one of Marchenko and Oulette would be in the opening night lineup.

Kronwall, Green, DeKeyser, Quincey, Ericsson, Smith, Kindl, Marchenko, Oulette

Who do you move?

That's an overpayment in my opinion. Remove one of the forwards and I'm game. If you move Nyquist in the deal you'd most likely be getting a draft pick coming over with Shattenkirk.

Nyquist 4 yr 19 mil- cap hit of 4.75 per. Can't really complain about that signing-- especially what others are getting.

I think you are way too optimistic about Holland's inclination to trade. I'm not saying I don't want this to happen, I just think the probability is remarkably low.

I don't think he has a choice. Kronwall, Ericsson, DD, Green, Quincey, Smith, Kindl, Marchenko, Oulette ....that's wayyyyy to many dmen

1. keep trying to trade Kindl
2. Nyquist deal is fine, he needs to perform when it counts. (in the playoffs).
3. No on Larkin this season, unless injuries hit. Let him and Mantha build up strength in the AHL for one more season

I just don't see why kindl...guys is the perfect 7th dman...if you trade him then someone more valuable like smith has to be scratched. Why not trade Ericsson, Quincey or smith who have a bit more valuable and actually try and get something half decent
